Bio
Julia Spretty is a woodwind specialist based in the Boston, MA, and Albany, NY areas, playing clarinet, bass clarinet, Eb clarinet, flute, piccolo, and alto saxophone. She began studying the clarinet at the age of nine, drawn to its expressive tone and dynamic range, and soon expanded her musical skills by teaching herself the flute two years later. Her passion for woodwinds continued to grow as she learned alto saxophone and piccolo, truly embracing this area of her musicianship.
Julia has been a part of many musical theatre productions, where she has gained extensive experience as a pit musician and woodwind doubler. Click here to view!

Julia is a clarinet performance major at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where she studies under Jan Halloran, principal clarinet of the Boston Lyric Opera and Assistant Professor of Clarinet and Chamber Music. With over eleven years of experience on the clarinet, Julia has participated in numerous programs and festivals. In addition to studying clarinet, Julia has also studied flute and alto saxophone with the renowned Sarah Brady and Philipp Stäudlin.
In high school, she was selected for the NYSSMA All-State ensembles for two consecutive years, performing with both the Symphonic Orchestra on B♭ clarinet and the Symphonic Band on E♭ clarinet. Julia also was a part of the Juilliard School Summer Winds Program as well as the New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA).
In addition to her work as a clarinetist and woodwind musician, Julia is an accomplished vocalist. She has performed with the NY-ACDA Honor Choir and appeared as a vocal jazz soloist at the NYSSMA Solo Festival throughout her high school years.
