As a clarinetist with the Empire State Youth Orchestra (ESYO), Julia has participated in numerous performances, including the CBS 6 Melodies of Christmas—a holiday fundraiser supporting efforts to combat childhood cancer and blood disorders at Albany Med. Over her five years with ESYO during high school, Julia served as principal clarinet for three years in the Symphony Orchestra. A significant milestone in her career was her Carnegie Hall debut, performing with ESYO in June 2023.

In October 2025, Julia was an instrumentalist in the pit orchestra for Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella with the Boston Conservatory, playing clarinet, Eb clarinet, and bass clarinet. The orchestra was featured as a part of the set on stage! There were four performances of this show at Mainstage Theatre at the Boston Conservatory in Boston, MA.

In November 2024, Julia Spretty performed on both contralto clarinet and flute within the same program—an uncommon combination for a single player. Embracing the challenge, Julia found the experience invaluable in strengthening her versatility and musicianship as a woodwind doubler. The program featured Michael Colgrass’s Winds of Nagual, in which she performed on the contralto clarinet.

In February 2025, Julia made her orchestral debut as a flutist in a performance at Harvard University. She earned her casting in the Boston Conservatory Orchestra after successfully completing a placement audition on both flute and clarinet at the beginning of the academic year. A highlight of this concert was the orchestra’s performance of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture, marking an exciting milestone in Julia’s growing orchestral experience.
